Steady Baltimore Presents:

Street art extravaganza, Bits and Pieces, featuring aerosol imagery from a selection of the original style creators and emerging street artists is presented by Steady Baltimore for your visual pleasure. The style of the letter is a primary tool with which many graffiti artists choose to express themselves. Much like professional calligraphists, Baltimore based artists JaziRock and Booda Wyse have spent decades studying the art of the letter.Characters and abstract shapes are a constant inclusion in visual art with an urban foundation. Blister & Ways along with other artists in the show have introduced to the public their diverse platforms of creation through their previous exhibitions in the Baltimore, DC and Philadelphia metro areas.With artists who specialize in adaptation, this malleable show space will be transformed into a three dimensional plethora of visual expression. With an alternative display of canvas, mixed media and other true school artifacts this event will be something Baltimore has never seen before.Enthusiasts and artists alike will enjoy the exhibit focused on accentuating the individual characteristics of the graffiti art form. 5) WHITE TEES WHITE BELTS SHOW: Lo-Fi Social Club

Named after their own independent record label and production house, Emynd & Bo Bliz’s Crossfaded Bacon 2008 Mix” is a double disc mix E&B prepared before hitting up SXSW this year for the Flamin Hotz showcase in Austin, Texas. Each mix is a tightly-wound, inte nse, listenable journey that demonstrates each of Emynd & Bo Bliz’s personal tastes, production, and DJing abilities. Emynd’s mix starts off with some lesser known New Orleans Bounce music (including his NOLA Bounce remix of the South Rakkas Crew “Mad Again” which will be released on Mad Decent later this year) and then steadily progresses through some Hyphy, some up-tempo, breakbeat-heavy old-school rap, switching up rather dramatically to explore some House before finally progressing into Baltimore Club and Philly Party music (most of which is self-produced). The mixtape focuses on Emynd’s production abilities and showcases several tracks that will be released this year on Mad Decent, Flamin Hotz, and independently on Crossfaded Bacon Records.

Bo Bliz describes his mix simply enough as “a mix full of songs I like to listen to.” Chock full of Philly rap, Dirty South anthems, Dancehall, and Soul and R&B classics, Bliz’s mix is a very listenable exploration of his far reaching personal tastes. While several of these tracks are club staples that never get old, Bo didn’t forget to include some rare and exclusive tracks you’ve likely never heard before, as well as several songs that he himself produced.

The shin splints he developed in Philadelphia weren't enough to stop him from reaching Annapolis last night.
Wearing a well-worn pair of white Air Jordans, 43-year-old Andre Latallade stopped at the Stanton Community Center, a layover in his 1,700-mile walk to abolish the death penalty.
Mr. Latallade, of Newark, N.J., started his trip on March 31 from the New Jersey State House, the last state to outlaw capital punishment. On May 25, he plans to reach Austin, Texas, a state that executes more convicts than any other. He will have to walk at least 40 miles a day to stay on schedule.
"There is a lot of killing in the world. If we can stop it at one place, then maybe it will bleed over to another," said Mr. Latallade, who flows between Bible verses, parts of international law and Johnny Cash's anthem to injustice, "Man in Black."
His visit comes as Maryland sits in death penalty limbo. The state Court of Appeals ruled that proper policies weren't followed when creating procedures to administer lethal injections. As such, lethal injections were put on hold until new protocols could be developed, protocols death penalty opponent Gov. Martin O'Malley has not created.
Mr. Latallade, also known as rapper Capital X, told a crowd of 150 in Annapolis last night that his stance against the death penalty was cemented during his own incarceration.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and raised in the South Bronx and later as the only minority in his school in New Jersey, he started using drugs at 12, selling them at 14, dropped out of school at 16, and was in jail at 17.
He spent 25 years cycling in and out of prison. He's been free since 2001, after serving about five years on drug, weapons and aggravated assault charges.
But it wasn't until he had gone to college and faced discrimination during an internship with a record company that he became an activist.
His friend and collaborator in the music business, Timm Kostenko, said he saw a new intensity in Mr. Latallade when this happened. He started reading much more, taking detailed notes, learning everything he could about prisons and the justice system. It was his purpose, Mr. Kostenko said.
"It was a gradual awakening. It was a gradual transition. He said 'you know what? There's room for me here,' " Mr. Kostenko said.
Mr. Latallade said his stance has drawn attacks. Some people accuse him of engaging on a campaign to boost his entertainment career. One person said he would think differently if his grandmother was butchered "like a pig."
He says he sympathizes with victims' families. And there are criminals who deserve to live and die - naturally - behind bars. "I understand that when your family member is murdered it is a horrific experience. But what about a mother who looks at her son in a cage, waiting for him to be murdered?" he said.
Mr. Latallade's message was important for people of the Clay Street neighborhood around the Stanton Center to hear, said Zastrow Simms, who was there to watch "Pip & Zastrow" a documentary about himself and former Mayor Pip Moyer.
"I'm glad he's here because so many of our youngsters do things that lead to it. They need to know it's no joke," Mr. Simms said.

In the 70's, art and music exclusive to the streets and YMCA's of the Bronx personified an inner city environment that begged for an escape from crime and poverty. While POSE 2 designed the fliers and Afrika Bambaataa controlled the crowd with the ones and two's, people from all over NYC for one night forgot about gangs, poverty and politics.

Should it be a surprise that with those same hip-hop founding conditions existing in Baltimore today, that it too is seeking an outlet? Steady Baltimore and DIG's "Nothing But the Breaks" has become that outlet for an emerging sub-culture of street and graffiti artists and lovers of funk and soul music.

Also known as "DIG" on Tuesday's, DJ duo Landis Expandis and Napspace keep the B-Boys and crowd moving spinning nothing but the funkiest breaks around. Emerging street and graffiti artists BillyMode, Jazirock, El Toro (PHILLY), Adam Neubauer (DC), Ners Boogie and Joe Ride display 70s themed works on canvas, 70s vinyl records and found material.

Politics, poverty and crime aside, Nothing But The Breaks is Baltimore's answer to its vices and ills.

Andre Latallade, hip-hop artist and prison rights activist also known as Capital-"X", will walk from New Jersey to Texas to advocate for the abolishment of capital punishment in the United States.

Latallade will begin his “Walk 4 Life” on March 31, 2008 at 5AM at the state house in Trenton, NJ, the first state to abolish the death penalty in the last 40 years. He will walk 1700 miles through 10 of the highest executing states and arrive at Governors mansion in Austin, Texas, "the busiest killing state in the country,” to await the Supreme Courts’ ruling on the constitutionality of capital punishment.

Latallade estimates it will take 54 days walking 8 hours/day at 3.5 mph. He will take a break to participate on a panel at the Hip Hop Association's HHEAL Festival in the Bronx, New York April 18-20.

Latallade wants to "build bridges between two groups; the families of murder victims and the families of the condemned. Separated we call for life or death, I say we unite and call for resolution." Latallade promotes life sentences without parole as opposed to death sentences. Currently there is a moratorium on state-sanctioned executions while the Supreme Court rules whether lethal injection is cruel and unusual punishment.

"I want to unite everybody fighting injustice and mobilize the international community to put pressure on the USA to abolish the death penalty. I have Italy, England, France, Denmark and Croatia behind me and am also reaching out to Puerto Rico." Non-profit organizations, human rights groups, and abolitionists from around the world are supportive of Andre on his "Walk 4 Life."

Many spas like to distinguish themsleves as the best in the business, but I think that should be left to the consumer so, to find the best spas in Baltimore I became a consumer and sampled the most recommended spas in the area. The two favorites, after much research, are Zina Day Spa in Canton and the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa in Cross Keys.

Zina Day Spa is wonderful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The Owner, Zina, is very personable and warm and spa reflects her personality. She offers wonderful treatments including, the spa vitamin facial and the deep tissue therapy massage. I personally had a deep tissue massage with Tierra and the European facial with Carolyn and they were wonderful.

With such careful touch and professionalism you really can relax. Zina said that, "When people come to the spa, they should have in mind that are going on a little vacation, otherwise it is too hard to relax." I understand where she is coming for with the idea of mental preparation, the moment I laid down to my facial all of the problems and worries of the day disappeared.

At the end of my treatments, the spa offered a sauna and steam room for relaxation and centering. There are also great packages for couples. I am thinking when the BF comes back (See: thelifeofglam) he and I are going there! Separate rooms for two and private spa pedicures allow you and your significant, or best friend, your own spa experience.

Right in the heart of Canton Square is a little oasis of heaven for the ever social, young professional.
